Scientific oversight
Scientific leadership and independent review are required for each project. Project records will identify the accountable lead and reviewers before research execution.
ASTRANOVA RESEARCH & TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCES
AstraNova’s research unit advances AI drug discovery, medicines security and pharmacovigilance through a focused scientific agenda, reproducible methods and responsible translation.
The unit is launching with three programmes and an initial project agenda. Programme activity, appointments, collaborations and completed outputs will be reported as they are established.
THREE CONNECTED PROGRAMMES
Our operating model centres on a focused research office, specialist expertise and collaboration with appropriately qualified research partners.
A computational research programme exploring drug repurposing and candidate prioritisation, with experimental validation undertaken through appropriately qualified research partners.
EXPLORE PROGRAMME ↗02 / RESEARCH PROGRAMMEAn applied research programme examining supply dependencies, shortage risks and continuity considerations for a clearly defined group of medicines.
EXPLORE PROGRAMME ↗03 / RESEARCH PROGRAMMEA research programme evaluating the quality of medicines-safety information and the responsible use of AI to assist safety-signal prioritisation.
EXPLORE PROGRAMME ↗RESEARCH GOVERNANCE
Scientific leadership and independent review are required for each project. Project records will identify the accountable lead and reviewers before research execution.
Establish lawful access, data permissions, privacy requirements and any applicable ethics approvals before research begins.
Define protocols, baselines, evaluation criteria, versioned analyses and documented limitations.
Agree research ownership and publication terms. Separate exploratory findings from validated capabilities and operational decisions.
A DISCIPLINED START
The initial agenda comprises one focused project per programme, with resources and specialist review agreed before research execution.
The research office model combines scientific leadership, computational research, medicines-security analysis and specialist pharmacovigilance input. Wet-laboratory validation requires appropriately qualified facilities and agreed partner arrangements. Confirmed collaborations will be announced with the partner’s permission.
The initial output agenda comprises protocols, reproducible analyses, evidence briefings and validation plans. Publications and performance claims will follow actual work and review.
DEVELOPMENT GATES
Select the question, therapeutic or medicine scope, feasibility criteria and intended outputs.
Secure leadership, budget, data access, review arrangements and collaboration terms.
Run the approved protocol, compare results and examine errors and limitations.
Seek independent review and decide whether publication, further validation or a commercial pathway is justified.
FIRST 90 DAYS · LAUNCH WORK PROGRAMME
Assign project ownership, finalise the three research questions, record resource requirements and establish the protocol and collaboration registers.
Complete literature and dataset reviews, assess permissions, agree methods and baselines, and identify suitable independent reviewers and validation partners.
Review readiness against each project’s governance gates. Begin approved analysis where conditions are met; record constraints and revised milestones where they are not.
This is the unit’s launch work programme, not a record of completed work or a guarantee of results within 90 days. Research execution depends on project-specific resources, permissions and review.
CLEAR RESPONSIBILITIES
Applied pharmaceutical research and responsible commercial translation, alongside the distribution business.
Technology support is assessed for defined research and operational workflows. Research applications require appropriate validation before findings or performance claims are relied upon.
A separate research and policy entity. Any collaboration would require disclosed relationships, agreed roles and protection of editorial independence. Formal collaborations will be identified when agreed.
Pharmacovigilance research is separate from any operational medicines-safety responsibilities, reporting arrangements or regulated service commitments.
RESEARCH OUTPUTS
The unit is at launch phase; completed outputs have not yet been published. Publications will identify authorship, methods, dates, references, funding and conflicts, data limitations and review status. Research briefs will remain distinguishable from operational product claims.
RESEARCH COLLABORATION
We welcome research collaboration discussions with universities, computational researchers, medicines-security specialists and qualified safety scientists. Please do not send patient data or confidential datasets through the enquiry form.
